War: A Cost Too Great

What are wars for?
They crush dreams under boots of pride,
Homes crumble into dust,
And lives built with care
Vanish in moments of fire and fury.

Children dream of becoming Scientists,
Artists, healers, creators of hope,
Yet war comes, unexpected,
And leaves them as whispers of what could have been.

For a patch of land, a name of a god,
For power, for lines drawn on maps;
Wars are waged.
But at what cost?
Parents mourn empty arms,
Spouses ache for hands no longer there,
And nations drown in silent tears.

The Earth, unmatched in its beauty,
Is a masterpiece of art and science.
It holds mountains that pierce the heavens,
Rivers that carry ancient secrets,
And forests that hum with life.
Yet we scar its face,
Pollute its breath,
And call it progress.

We search the skies,
Hoping to find a new home,
While our only home burns behind us.
The moon, Mars, and far-off worlds;
We dream of life elsewhere,
Yet we are blind to the life we destroy here.

Why is it so hard
To live in harmony with nature?
Why must we conquer and consume
What was meant to be shared?
Once, early men cleared forests for survival,
Moving on when the land grew tired.
Now, we clear everything;
Forests, oceans, even hope.

War is imbalance;
A tear in the fabric of life.
It shakes the Earth beneath us,
Raising storms, tsunamis, plagues;
Nature’s sorrow,
Her warning that enough is enough.

Does war bring peace?
Does it make us more whole?
No. It leaves us broken,
Fragments of what we could have been.

The air we breathe,
Named differently in every tongue,
Is the same everywhere;
A silent, selfless giver of life.
No border divides its truth.
No god demands its destruction.

Oxygen sustains us,
As does love, as does peace.
What benefit does war bring?
It offers no peace,
No trust,
No future.

Fast running may thrill the heart,
But slow walking
Brings the peace we yearn for.
Pride dazzles for a moment,
But peace nourishes forever.

Why do we destroy what sustains us?
Why do we trade the treasures of life
For fleeting power?
The Earth is our only home,
A gem unmatched in the universe.

Even if we find other planets,
What lessons will we bring?
Will we repeat our history;
Destroy and move on?
Or will we learn to cherish,
To heal, to live in harmony?

War is not the answer.
It does not solve; it destroys.
Let us choose peace,
For pride fades,
But life endures.
